What is a Regular Boiler?

A regular boiler, often called a conventional boiler, is a large and powerful boiler system consisting of a hot water cylinder and a cold water tank. Due to the size of the boiler solution, it requires a large space including the cold water tank in a loft space. The cold-water tank in the loft passes down water to the boiler, which passes hot water to appliances around the property or in the hot water cylinder.

The cold-water tank and large water cylinder require more space for the boiler system, making it more suited to larger households. However, with its large system comes the ability to meet large hot water demands and reliable hot water for appliances.

Why Choose a Regular Boiler?

Regular boilers have commonly been used in UK households since the 1970s and 1980s due to their practicality and reliability for hot water solutions. Due to the cold-water tank functionality and ability to store large volumes of hot water, the regular boiler provides a consistent, reliable source of hot water which makes it often preferred by larger households with large hot water demands.

  • No need for high water pressure due to gravity
  • Multi-use hot water for households with high demands
  • Ability to connect hot water to solar panels
  • Back up hot water in case of boiler issues

FAQs

We’ve answered some of our most frequently asked questions on regular boilers…

How long does a regular boiler installation take?

The time taken for a regular boiler installation typically lasts from a day up to 3 days. The time taken for one of our engineers to safely install a new regular boiler can depend on the complexity of the job and how much work is required. Boiler conversions, such as system boiler being replaced by a conventional boiler may take longer.

What is the difference between a regular boiler and a combi boiler?

There are many differences in the functionalities between the combi boiler and the regular boiler. The regular boiler provides a more reliable, consistent solution for hot water in a household, whereas a combi boiler offers a greener, more efficient solution which can reduce energy expenditure.

Can a small household use a regular boiler?

Regular boilers require space for a hot water cylinder and cold water tank which does require space and therefore it would not be suitable for small households.

Can you replace a system boiler with a regular boiler?

Our boiler engineers are trained to remove and replace system boilers with a brand-new A+ rated regular boiler.

How much does a regular boiler installation cost?

Typically, a regular boiler installation can cost anywhere between £2,500 and £5,000. This includes the cost of the boiler unit and the installation costs.

The cost does depend on the boiler model you choose, with affordable and premium options available, and the complexity of the job. Some jobs may require more work completed which can increase the overall cost.
